You know nothing good dwells within you, that is, in your flesh. You can will what is right, but you cannot do it.
You do not do the good you want, but the evil you do not want is what you do. If you do what you do not want, it is no longer you that do it, but sin which dwells within you.
When you want to do right, evil lies close at hand for you delight in the law of God, in your inmost self.
As a leader, you can also be a captive of the law of sin that dwells in your members if their doings is at war with the law of your mind. Who then will deliver you from this body of death?
